Three Librarians will read three beautiful stories on three different nights. You relax and enjoy. Gain a gorgeous introduction to some of children's literature's best poet-novelists.
Celebrate Poetry Month with us! We are so excited to share these THREE beautiful novels with you! Parents do not need to prepare in any way for this program; just sign in and enjoy. Feel free to blank your screen and work on chores (food prep, cleaning, folding laundry) or just drink a glass of wine. This is time set aside for your personal enjoyment.
1. Linda Sue Park's The One Thing You'd Save (to be published March 2021) If your house were on fire, what one thing would you save? Newbery Medalist Linda Sue Park explores different answers to this provocative question in linked poems that capture the diverse voices of a middle school class.
2. Nikki Grimes' Garvey's Choice (2016) Garvey is kind, funny, smart, a loyal friend, and he is also overweight, teased by bullies, and lonely. When his only friend encourages him to join the school chorus, Garvey’s life changes.
3 David Bowles' They Call Me Güero: A Border Kid's Poems (2018) In Spanish, “Güero” is a nickname for guys with pale skin, Latino or Anglo. But make no mistake: our red-headed, freckled hero is puro mexicano.
Each of these authors brings a diverse #Own Voices viewpoint to us in a contemporary story in joyous, accessible poetry. After our program is over, read them out loud (or recommend them) to your kids in 3rd - 7th grade.
Please remember to include your email in the registration so we can share the link to our program with you the day before each class.
