June 1 is the first day to register for Summer Learning. Registration itself continues through July 24; kids can win prizes and books until August 24.
Our theme this summer of 2019? A Universe of Stories! We will have great space themed events, like a chance to experience StarLab and a program for kids about the Apollo Missions and a preschool program called Baby Loves Aerospace Engineering!
Kids win prizes and get official library encouragement for reading all summer long, keeping their reading & learning skills sharp. Every child finishing 30 days of reading gets a free high quality paperback book they select themselves from a huge pile purchased especially for them by Brian Wilson, our Children's buyer.
How Summer Learning works: register in-person at any library location OR at epl.org/summerlearning. Come into the library to get an official reading log, an event guide jammed with great events for your kids and a registration gift for kids and teens. Then, using your log, start reading whatever you like. (Summer is a great time for kids to have the freedom to read for pleasure -- and research shows that freedom pays off in stronger skills.)
Parents are encouraged to register too to model reading for their kids - and to win their own delicious prizes and free book, but there's a another way to play this year for adults. Watch for Evanston Public Library Summer Learning ballot boxes at local businesses and organizations. Each time you fill out a quick entry about a book you've read, you get a chance to win a gift card!
