NASA is getting new and amazing photos from missions to planets, comets and moons all the time. These pictures are studied using a variety of techniques, including visual analysis, or "looking to understand". Similarly, visual artists depend on their sense of sight to guide their creativity. Different shapes can relate to specific geological processes such as: circle/crater, blob/volcano or lake, straight lines/tectonic activity, squiggly lines/erosion.
What we want you to do as a family is choose a photo from the NASA Planetary Missions program to work from. Next, choose what type of art you'd like to make; collage, watercolor, pastel, sculpture, etc. Use that photo as your inspiration as you create your family's artistic interpretation of the photo.
When you're finished, email a photo or scan of your artwork, plus the link to the original photo to kdaufeldt@cityofevanston.org. Four winners will be chosen by raffle from all entries submitted. We may even display your art in the library! Entries are due by October 17.
