Whether you have a little space or a lot, you can start getting ready for edible gardening now.

Have you been thinking about trying to grow vegetables and fruit to eat? Are you unsure about how to start? Do you think you can't garden because of limited space or because you only have a patio or balcony? Well set those fears aside because we'll teach you how to get started, and yes, fall is a perfect time to begin preparing for next spring's crops. After all the key to a successful garden (next year or anytime) is to plan your garden space and most importantly, start building healthy soil.

Our presenter will be Tim Sonder of Edible Evanston, an organization that creates community centered around places of local food production throughout the city. Edible Evanston encourages and supports food growers and provides opportunities for education and for sharing food.

Tim will cover the basics such as:

  • Selecting your garden space
  • Converting lawns to vegetable gardens
  • Deciding if you need a raised bed or if you can grow your crops in the ground
  • How to grow food on paved areas, patios and balconies
  • Why soil matters and what makes healthy soil
  • Low cost and free ways to improve your soil
  • Why you might want to do a soil test and how you can do one
  • Protecting your soil for the winter

Please register and join us so you can learn all there is to know about getting started with edible gardening.

The Zoom link for this program will be sent out approximately 24 hours before the event.
