We're just a couple weeks shy of being 9 months into life during COVID Times and a new year is right around the corner. Like expectant parents, this year has involved waiting, hunkering down, new and weird items added to the shopping list, realizing your capsule wardrobe now mainly consists of comfy, stretchy clothes, wanting to know all there is to know about the experience, and feelings of fear and shaky hope.
Join Ms. Martha, Ms. Jessica and Ms. Tracy as we read out loud selections of Eloise Greenfield's poetic and historically situated story, The Women Who Caught The Babies: A Story of African American Midwives* during our first Tuesday session. For our second Tuesday, we will share excerpts from Lucy Knisley's intimate, humorous and myth-challenging graphic novel memoir, Kid Gloves: Nine Months of Careful Chaos which chronicles her life changing journey to become a first time mom.
Make sure to stick with us to the end because during our 3rd and final Tuesday of this "Parents After Bedtime" set, we will get to MEET the author of Kid Gloves, herself! And remember, this time is for you- listen while you clean up, prep food for the next day, or just relax and know that you are sharing space with fabulous parents scattered around Evanston! We are community!
Register NOW for "Parents After Bedtime Read Aloud Club," starting Tuesday, December 1, from 8pm - 9pm. Be sure to include your email when registering so that you can be invited to the call! Once you register, you are welcome to contact Evanston's children's bookshop, "Booked," to buy a signed copy of Kid Gloves, if you wish! However, reading along is by no means expected. This is a zero prep book club!
