Author Discussion-Ladies Leading: The Black Women Who Control Television News
Northwestern University Journalism Professor and former news reporter, Dr. Ava Thompson Greenwell, will discuss her book Leading Ladies: Black Women Who Control Television News (2020). Professor Thompson Greenwell interviewed 40 Black women in leading roles in news media and shares the challenges of being a Black woman in the world of broadcast journalism. She will share what prompted her to write this book and her findings.
Ava Thompson Greenwell is an author, filmmaker, podcaster, professional coach and journalism professor with more than 25 years of experience teaching reporting, writing, and on-camera presentation at Northwestern University. She also hosts Ladies Leading, the podcast, to celebrate and elevate Black women leaders in all professions. She holds a master's degree in broadcast journalism and Ph.D in African American Studies.
