Learn some simple things you can do to make your home and our planet healthier; and make your own household scouring scrub.
The Cook County Department of Environment and Sustainability's Community Outreach Coordinator Kate Carney will discuss how to properly reduce household hazardous waste materials and make green cleaning alternatives that are safer for both you and the environment. A Q&A session will follow. After the presentation, you're invited to stay and make your own scouring scrub and also will receive a list of recipes for green cleaning products you can make and use at home.
Kate Carney is the Community Outreach Coordinator for the Cook County Department of Environment and Sustainability. Her passion for sustainability and environmental topics started when she realized how much paper was going into the trash where she worked. This led to her creating a paper recycling program for that company and years of volunteer work with an environmental non-profit in Milwaukee. She then made the decision to make a major career change and return to college where she earned a degree in Conservation and Environmental Sciences from UW-Milwaukee. Kate now has more than 10 years of professional experience engaging residents and students on environmental topics including composting, energy and water conservation, waste reduction and more!
