Love STEM? Love reading? Then here's a book club for you. For grades: 3-5.
The Young Scientist Book Club is a fun, interdisciplinary twist on the traditional book club. Kids will read challenging, yet engaging STEM-focused books from all genres and formats - including fantasy, science fiction, graphic novels and more - and work to connect and share ideas about experiences and ideas about diversity, equity and inclusion in STEM.
In addition to the reading, kids will also have the chance to work on a STEM activity or challenge that ties into the reading. During our discussion of the book and its themes, kids also will have the opportunity to discuss their creations and explore the science behind them.
This month, we will be discussing is Orphan Island by Laurel Snyder. You can find an ebook copy available on Hoopla here. To learn more about Hoopla and how to use it, click here. There will also be a limited amount of copies you can check out at the Children's desk. Please stop by to get a copy!
The activity that goes along with the reading will be available for pickup at Main starting Nov 15th.
Registration is required. Must be an Evanston resident or attend school in District 65 to participate. To help curb the spread of COVID-19, the book discussion will be conducted via Zoom. Be sure to include your email when registering so that you can be invited to the call.
