In conversation with Ava Thompson Greenwell, Ph.D., Director of Mandela in Chicago
Northwestern University Journalism professor Dr. Ava Thompson Greenwell will discuss her documentary Mandela in Chicago, which originally aired on February 14, 2021. Mandela in Chicago documents Nelson Mandela's historic visit to Chicago in 1993, three years after he was released from prison and one year before he became South Africa's first Black president. The documentary features footage and interviews from Chicago and South African activists. The documentary is available for viewing on PBS.org and will rebroadcast on WTTW Sunday, February 6th and Saturday, February 12th.
Ava Thompson Greenwell is an author, filmmaker, podcaster, professional coach and journalism professor with more than 25 years of experience teaching reporting, writing, and on-camera presentation at Northwestern University. She holds a master's degree in broadcast journalism and Ph.D. in African American Studies.
