Southern Blacks migrated north to postwar Chicago as "the Promised Land," but Chicago quickly became the most segregated and inhospitable city in the North. The cause was not "white flight" or crime.
. . . the cause was predatory exploitation of both newly arrived Blacks and established Black communities by banks, slumlords, "developers," and an entire cast of hucksters. This book on race and real estate was a Top 10 Choice of 2009 by both The New York Times and the Washington Post.
This meeting will be both in person (in the 3rd floor Seminar Room) and on Zoom.
