Create & use zines as a social justice publishing medium to educate others, find like-minded community members, share their personal stories and advocate for issues that matter to them. Grades 6-12.
We keep hearing how "young people are our future" -- but young people aren't just the future, they are the NOW! Youth movements are flourishing around the country as teens speak out about the issues that matter to them.
In this workshop, teens will learn how to write, design, publish and distribute zines. Zines are limited-run, self-published magazines often centered on the intersection of the personal and the political. Zines are perhaps best known for their connection to social activism, such as the Riot Grrls in the 1990s. In today's volatile political culture, zines are more popular than ever before!
Our workshop will specifically teach teens to use zines as a social justice publishing medium to educate others, find like-minded community members, share their personal stories and advocate for issues that matter to them.
This workshop will be highly interactive! Come ready to write, cut, paste, draw and collage! Every teen will leave with at least one completed zine, as well as handouts and templates to make more with friends.
Grades 6-12. Please register.
