Join us for a short film about Monty & Rose, the Piping Plovers who nested on Montrose Beach last year, followed by a discussion of ways you can support and help birds.
You may have seen the news about a recent study revealing that we've lost almost 3 billion birds since 1970 - that is one in four birds in less than a human lifetime. We are losing once-common species throughout the world, everything from swallows and sparrows to warblers and meadowlarks. A world without birds would be an ecological disaster and decidedly less delightful.
Come and learn what you can do to protect, support and help our feathered friends.
We'll start the evening with a screening of the short film about Monty & Rose, a pair of endangered Piping Plovers who nested on Montrose Beach last summer and who people rallied around to protect. The filmmaker, Bob Dolgan, will be on hand to talk about the film and his experiences with the Plovers.
Evanston resident and bird photographer, Tamima Itani, will describe how she organized volunteer efforts to protect the Plovers, and Annette Prince from Chicago Bird Collision Monitors will talk about her 18 years of bird advocacy, rescue and protection and go over what you can do to help birds.
We'll also cover creating bird friendly habitats and other things you can do to help.
Registration is encouraged but not required.
