Rangoli is the Indian art of creating beautiful designs with colored sand to celebrate a festival. Come to either location of the Evanston Public Library to pick up a kit containing 3 colors of sand, a flower mandala or a design of Ganesha himself on card stock, and directions for your Rangoli craft! Kit available for the 11 days of Ganesh Chaturthi: September 10 through September 21, or while supplies last!
Ganesh Chaturthi, which starts on September 10th, is a major Hindu festival celebrating the advent of the elephant-headed God, Ganesha. Ganesha is revered as the remover of obstacles, the patron of arts and sciences, the source of intellect and wisdom, and also the God of new beginnings.
Everyone is welcome to come and get a sand craft kit. Kit better suited to 1st grade and up, but with parental support and guidance, preschoolers can do it.
