Based on interviews with survivors, John E. Washington recalls first-hand encounters African-Americans had with Abraham Lincoln in this remarkable book, first published in 1942. Northwestern professor Kate Masur has written a superb introduction for a new edition of this book published by Oxford University Press in 2018. Professor Masur will be joining us for our book group discussion.
