Celebrate the Mid Autumn Festival by making a moon rabbit lantern. Pick up your kit at the Main Library or Robert Crown Branch Library starting September 15th, while supplies last!
The Mid Autumn or Moon Festival, celebrated near the Autumn Equinox, was originally a harvest festival. Now this happy family celebration takes place in numerous East and Southeast Asian countries. The moon festival may involve a whole family going out at night to celebrate and commemorate loved ones under the full moon. Lanterns are used to light your way to a good place to view the moon; mooncakes made of red bean paste or lotus paste and an egg yolk enclosed in a moon shaped pastry, are delicious, rich treats a family shares together. The moon and the mooncake as full circles are a symbol of the circle of family.
This kit includes an adorable bunny to cut out (let us know if you need to use our scissors before you leave the library), a bag, a pipe cleaner and a LED light to make the bunny's tummy glow!
