In 1920 the Post Office created the first transcontinental aerial route across the country, connecting New York City to San Francisco. The route became the backbone of commercial aviation. It's success depended upon everyone from Presidents to farmers, and it was essential in developing aviation improvements following World War I. I will discuss the impact of the overall route, as well as some of the stories of the incidents and individuals which made it possible.
