Meet the artist behind the artwork for 1619: The Journey of a People, A Musical.
Join us for a conversation with Sholo Beverly.
In June of this year, Fleetwood-Jourdain Theater, Northwestern University's Office of Neighborhood & Community Relations and Evanston Public Library partnered to bring 1619: The Journey of a People, A Musical to Fleetwood-Jourdain Theater for a six show run. The performances took place in front of a mural that was created, by Sholo Beverly, specifically for the show. Additionally, she created the poster art work which helped promote the show. A talented artist born on the Southside of Chicago, Sholo, will share her journey as an artist and how she decided on the two art pieces for the show.
Sholo Beverly has taken her art to the streets with Murals to advocate for social change on racism and women's rights. Each mural she creates contains bright colors with hidden messages to observe and process. Techniques used include: homemade inks, collage, watercolor, and encaustic wax painting with acrylic inks.
Paid for in part by a grant from the NEA.
