Make a native seed plant bomb to make your world more beautiful, and friendly to life!
Have you ever heard of guerilla gardening or seed bombs? Some "guerilla" gardeners, who want to green the world without asking permission, sneak out at night to plant bare areas. Others make seed bombs and lob them into neglected areas where the wildflower seeds they contain germinate and come spring, create flower filled habitats. We recommend ‘bombing’ your own property to provide a habitat for birds, insects and pollinators, and create pockets of beauty which are especially welcome in urban areas like ours.
The library, in partnership with The Climate Initiative (TCI) and Natural Habitat Evanston, is offering you the chance to create your own seed bombs, and to learn about native plants and invasive species common in our area.
This one hour event is for educators, and for those aged 13 to 23. It's a fun, simple activity and after you've made your seed bombs, you'll be asked to throw them into neglected places that need some native vegetation.
So join us on August 11 in the community room of the main library to get down and dirty with seed bombs and try your hand at guerilla gardening.
TCI is a national nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to activating and empowering youth toward climate action, and Natural Habitat Evanston is a native habitat preservation program of Citizens’ Greener Evanston, a nonprofit whose mission is creating a healthier and more sustainable Evanston.
