Learn about your rights and responsibilities under the Fair Housing Act.
Open Communities' Fair Housing 101 presentation covers the principle that fair housing rights are available to everyone. This training covers the broad protections in the federal Fair Housing Act, gives an overview of local protections in Illinois as well as in Cook County, and helps community members understand how to recognize violations and take action. Some of the topics include reasonable accommodations for tenants, protections against discrimination based on a person's national origin, and the rights of people with prior involvement with the justice system when they are applying for housing.
This training is open to all community members who would like to learn more about their fair housing rights (and ways to take action when housing discrimination occurs), as well as landlords who would like to learn more about their responsibilities under the law. All are welcome!
